Casey Hartell, Certified Nurse Midwife in Wilmington NC

Meet Casey Hartell, DNP, CNM, WHNP — Your Certified Nurse Midwife for Home Birth in Wilmington, NC

I created Wild Moon Midwifery for families who want a calm, deeply personal home birth experience with one trusted midwife from pregnancy through postpartum.

I serve families within about an hour of Leland, North Carolina, including Wilmington and nearby coastal communities. By accepting only two clients per month, I am able to offer the kind of steady, present, relationship based care that feels both intimate and deeply supportive.

Why I do this work

Hello My Love,

If you're here, something inside you already knows that birth can be more than a medical event. Maybe you've been quietly imagining what it would feel like to labor in your own space, in your own way, surrounded by people who truly see you. I want you to know: that vision is not a fantasy. It is possible. And it is exactly why I do this work.

I am a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, and I have spent over a decade walking alongside women across every season of their health. But my heart has always been pulled toward birth, and more specifically, toward catching babies in the places where families feel most safe and most themselves.

My path to you has not been a straight line. I earned my nursing degree from UNC Wilmington and went on to serve as a Navy Nurse for five years, including a deployment aboard the USNS Comfort. That season taught me how to stay calm, stay present, and hold steady for the people in my care when it matters most. After leaving the Navy, I earned my doctorate from Georgetown University with a concentration in Women's Health and Midwifery, because I wanted every skill, every tool, every ounce of knowledge available to bring to this work.

I have attended births in large hospital settings alongside high-risk families. I know what complex looks like, and I know how to navigate it. But what has set my soul on fire has been my years in the community, catching babies and holding space for families in their most tender and powerful moments.

Two years at a freestanding birth center confirmed what I had always believed: birth and women's health care does not have to be loud and clinical and rushed. It can be calm and empowering.

Now I am rooted in Leland, North Carolina, and I am here to bring that same safe, evidence-based, deeply personal care directly into your home.

I believe you deserve to feel heard at every single appointment, not rushed through a checklist. I believe your pregnancy is not a problem to be managed, it is a journey worth honoring. I believe your body is capable, your instincts matter, and your birth story belongs to you. My job is simply to walk alongside you, provide my full knowledge and presence, and make sure you feel informed, supported, and never alone.

I practice care that is comprehensive and empathetic and respecting the full scope of who you are as a woman and not just a patient. Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, whether you have questions no one else has taken the time to answer or fears you have not said out loud yet, I want to hear all of it. You will never feel rushed, never feel judged, and never feel like just another chart.

When I am not with a client, you can find me in the garden, playing outside with my two kids, or lifting heavy things at the gym. But honestly? My dream afternoon is a sunny patch of floor and a really good book.

I am so glad you found your way here. I would be honored to be part of your story.

With Love,

Casey Hartell, DNP, CNM, WHNP

What matters most to me in your care

Presence

I keep my practice intentionally small so I can show up rested, attentive, and fully present for the families I serve.

Trust

I believe you deserve honest information, thoughtful guidance, and care that honors both evidence and intuition.

Peace

Home birth can offer a quiet, grounded beginning for families who want to labor in familiar surroundings with a known midwife by their side.

A little more about me

I am the founder of Wild Moon Midwifery and currently the only midwife in the practice. I chose this model intentionally because I believe continuity of care changes everything. The relationship we build during pregnancy shapes the way you feel in labor, the way you process decisions, and the way you remember your baby’s birth.

My approach blends calm, compassionate presence with evidence based care. I want you to feel deeply supported, well informed, and genuinely known. I believe that home birth is not about rejecting medicine. It is about offering the right care, in the right setting, for the right families.

I serve families within about 60 minutes of Leland, including Wilmington and surrounding coastal communities, and I accept only two clients per month so that every family receives spacious, high touch support.

My goal is not just to help you have a baby at home. It is to help you feel held, informed, and respected throughout the entire journey.
